  I came to this restaurant about 3 years ago and found a hair on my soup.
  
  Fast forward to yesterday my wife and her friends told me that they are at a Chinese Restaurant close by London Drugs near Joyce Skytrain Station. The flashback of what had happened years before that came back to me and long and behold they were talking about Honolulu Cafe !!
  
  I gave them another shot and I was surprised to say that the restaurant was clean and the servers were much better than when I first visited this restaurant 3 years ago.
  
  I ordered chicken & prawns with vegetables and Sweet and sour chicken with pineapples and vegetables for only $9.95 per dish! This also included steam rice.
  Our friends also ordered dishes such as pasta with seafood, Beef Rib Steak, pork Chop etc.
  
  Their menu is diverse and has lots of dishes to choose from. I will definitely come back here when my wife's parents are in town next week so they can try their Hainanese Chicken.

  Another breakfast with the Van crew means another HK meal. This time we went to Honolulu Cafe (which has no affiliation with Hawaiian food unfortunately). Strictly HK food. They're located in the same plaza as Wang's Shanghai Cuisine.
  
  We dropped in on a Monday morning (around 10:30am) to find it reasonably busy. A little run down but the cheap prices make up for it.
  
  The breakfast menu is only available from 8:00am to 11:30am. It's pretty standard; Chinese breakfast (aka. congee), instant noodle, HK breakfast and special breakfast. All come with a HK style coffee or tea.
  
  - 2x Milk tea ($0.50 each) - we both upgraded to a cold drink. These were good but super sweet and filled to the brim with ice. If you can, ask for less/half sugar.
  - Breakfast A+B combo ($7.50) - we went with scrambled egg & corned beef (#10) and spicy diced pork & vermicelli in soup (#6). The scrambled egg was decent. Liked the vermicelli noodles and the broth was tasty.
  - Breakfast A+B combo ($7.50) - second combo was chicken omelet (#5) and satay beef & vermicelli in soup (#4). We changed to ho fun noodles. I liked the chicken omelet more than the scrambled egg & corned beef. Chicken was tender; like the ones you get in jouk. Satay beef & vermicelli was standard. Similar to the one we ordered at Sun Tin Day Cafe.
  
  Cheap, filling breakfast (we ordered for three people) but typical HK food.

  If you are missing HK cha chan teng style of food and atmosphere, you can come here to get a bit of that.
  
  The restaurant is considered big when compared to many eateries around the area. It has always been about 70% filled when we come here for lunch. The food is served fast and every movement by the staff is economical, so they do not waste time going back and forth.
  
  The portions are big and great if you are hungry. Many items are rice and noodles, so you could also share (e.g. 2 dishes for 3, or 4 dishes for 5-6) depending on your appetite. The staff is quite happy to accommodate by bringing extra plates for sharing purposes.
  
  It is cash only, so remember to bring some with you.

  When I was beckoned to seat myself within a couple of minute of walking in the doors, I'd thought I was off to a promising start with this poorly rated cafe. Unfortunately that was the beginning of the end of my experience with Honolulu Cafe.
  
  For the next quarter of an hour, I watched other groups of people get seated, brought tea, their orders taken and some even had their food served. The moments I caught the attention of a waitress, they would wave to say wait and then nothing.
  
  If there was a way to leave a negative (-5 star) review, I would.

  Tastes great. Classic Chinese food for when you have the urge.  Menus are great and easy to understand. There is more variety here than the tiny places. Opening hours are long too.  For sure worth a second try.
